Just because you’re trying to lose weight, doesn’t mean you can’t indulge every now and then. One of the best ways to still eat foods you love without worrying about expanding your waistline is to make healthier versions at home. This refreshing, creamy and delicious peach frozen yogurt will satisfy your sweet tooth without all the guilt. By choosing the sweetest peaches you can find, you don’t need a ton of sugar, and may even be able to use less than used in this recipe.
A healthier alternative to ice cream
Frozen yogurt is not ice cream. It’s another dessert entirely, and when we stop comparing it to its richer cousin, we enjoy it way more. This one is just about the best I’ve ever made, and it’s so, so easy.
I will say that this stuff is great right out of the ice cream maker after churning — soft, fluffy, melt-in-your-mouth dreamy. If you do want it a little harder, put it in the freezer for an hour or two, then serve. If you freeze it for longer, allow some time to let it soften on the counter before you serve it because the yogurt can get quite hard.
Fresh Peach Frozen Yogurt
Makes about a quart
3 large, ripe peaches, peeled and cut into chunks (about 3 cups)
1/2 cup sugar
Juice of 1/2 lemon
2 cups plain whole milk yogurt
Put the peaches, sugar, and lemon juice in a food processor or blender and purée.
Transfer the peach mixture to a large bowl and stir in the yogurt. Chill the base in the refrigerator for at least an hour.
Freeze in an ice cream maker according to the directions. Serve immediately or transfer to a container and allow to firm up for an hour or two in the freezer.
